"We are all experiencing wars and atrocity through our phones, as isolated individuals, rather than collectively among other people, in community."
-Denise Soueidan O’Leary (Bender)
Palestinian Torontonian who has lived in Ukraine
In this age of mass media and dissociative technology, we find ourselves witnessing violence and suffering daily through our computer and phone screens. So often we consume content without an outlet to gather in community and actually process and honour what we’ve witnessed.
To mark the second anniversary of the war on Ukraine (Feb 24) and the ongoing genocide in Palestine we invite you to gather in person and fill our collective psyches with messages of resilience, love and beauty. In the prophetic tradition of musicians who have transmuted the pain and injustice of war into anti-war music, you are invited to add to an anti-war music video playlist that we will stream after a brief reflection and meditation on the role of Art in troubled times.
In the famous words of Bob Marley "One good thing about music, when it hits you feel no pain"
